In the lesson What Types Of Hebrew Dictionary Are There? we saw that many choices are available when you buy a Hebrew Dictionary. Which choice is best for you depends on a number of factors:
  • Who is the Hebrew Dictionary for? If it is for children, an Illustrated Hebrew Dictionary will be the only real choice.
  • Do you want a Hebrew Dictionary for Modern Hebrew or Biblical Hebrew? If it is for Biblical Hebrew, then a specialist Biblical Hebrew Dictionary is probably (but not necessarily) the best choice.
  • How will you use your Hebrew Dictionary? If you will use it on a regular basis, lugging a large Printed Hardback Hebrew Dictionary around between office and home will be very cumbersome. Flicking through hundreds or thousands of pages could become very time-consuming if you want to look up more than just an occasional word.
  • A small Electronic Hebrew Dictionary can be quick, light and very easy to use. On the other hand, some of them are very expensive. They may also need maintenance, in terms of buying batteries and updating the software from time to time.
  • A Software Hebrew Dictionary may be the best choice if you do a lot of work on the computer. In addition, a Software Hebrew Dictionary can integrate with Microsoft Windows, meaning that you can instantly look up words on Hebrew web pages on the Internet or in Hebrew Word documents. If that is how you intend to use your Hebrew Dictionary, this may be your best choice.

And remember, you don't necessarily have to choose just one Hebrew Dictionary. For instance, you could buy a cheap Printed Paperback Hebrew Dictionary for occasional office use, plus a Software Hebrew Dictionary for your laptop.
